Summary:

Greenhawk supports International Helmet Awareness Day by offering excellent deals on top brand helmets in store, on line and through mail order. Greenhawk even goes as far to offer education on having a properly fitted helmet in good condition and explains needed certifications for helmets at in store locations.

Opinion:

I think this is one of the greatest thing an equine company can participate in. Riding horses can be fun but dangerous at times as well. A helmet should be mandatory equipment for every horse and rider. The protection that a simple helmet can provide is unquestionable. I think this is an excellent marketing idea as well as getting hands on in the safety of their riders! This needs to be taught to both young and old, experienced and beginner. Helmet Safety should be step one and I am so happy that Greenhawk not only recognizes this but is willing to participate in such a great awareness day!

Jump Canada announced that Greenhawk Harness and Equestrian Supplies will be the recipient of the 2008 sponsor of the year award. This award is to recognize equestrian businesses that help sponsor equestrian show jumping. They have specifically been recognized for sponsoring the championships in both 2007 and 2008, creating the top prize money to be $100, 000! That is the most money given as prize money at the championships! Jump Canada goes on to explain the gratitude and thankfulness towards Greenhawk and its sponsorships throughout many years of equestrian show jumping.

Opinion:

I think out of any equestrian company, Greenhawk is the most deserving of this award! I am aware of all the sponsorships Greenhawk has on many equestrian events. They are known for being a large sponsor in the Canadian Royal Winter Fair. They have also sponsored smaller horse shows and all the way up to championship show jumping. Greenhawk is more then just a business within a community. It makes a difference within the equestrian community and helps dreams come true and possibilities of almost anything happen.

SUMMARY:

Exciting news comes to Stirling, Ontario. The news of a bigger, better Green hawk. The improvements are going to include the following:
     - Bigger parking for trailers/trucks
     - Wider variety of supplies
     - Sears continuing to be a pick up location for orders
     - And of course a grand opening!
The community is embracing the economic investment and expansion of the once a small tack shop.

OPINION:

I think the improvement of the tack shop is great for this community! A community that is driven in the equine world deserves such a wonderful change. This change is much needed in several other communities. A small business move like this can make such a drastic change in the financial aspect of a business and the drive of a equine society. It is a face life of the horse world! I enjoy seeing such support from the locals as well as the horse community.

Raceway Closure May Harm Green Hawk Business in Bible Hill

Summary:

Katie MacDonald opened up a Green Hawk Harness and Equestrian Supplies store in Bible Hill, NS. The business was doing great and rapidly expanding with the majority of customers being from the Truro Raceway. The standard breed racers were a high percentage of Katie's store. However with the Truro Raceway closing and there being little to no standard breed racers, the business is quickly taking a negative turn. Katie originally opened shop in Halifax nine years ago and made a business move to Bible Hill due to the Truro Raceway being right there and opening her up to so much potential business. Which once looked like a smart business move is quickly turning around and no longer working in her favour.
Another man, Tom MacLean, manager of Clarence Farm Services Ltd., also stated his business as well is going to be harmed. He use to sell the track up to 150 tonnes of horse feed every year! That business is now gone.

Opinion:

The closure of Truro Raceway has harmed not only small local businesses but also large franchises such as Green Hawk Harness and Equestrian Supplies. I think it is very unfortunate that the equine industry can fluctuate to such an extreme. If a business person is in business for over 9 years and excelling, then makes an educated business move to move to another location and then impact such as a raceway closing damages its business to such an extreme, it very unfortunate. It goes so much deeper then financially hurting as a business. The jobs that will be lost due to the closing is impacting on everyone in the community, especially if its such a small community such as Bible Hill, NS. The jobs lost at both the raceway and the equine stores such as Green Hawk due to less hours being open and less of a need for staff. This isn't the first of track ways to close. Fort Erie for example closed its doors as well. Many other raceways have closed its door and stalls. Unfortunately when these events occur, it has a large impact on the equestrian world. The equestrian world is such a small knit community, that a ripple in the water can cause devastation further down the road. Sadly for Kim MacDonald, the ripple affect has impacted her tack shop business drastically as well as other local businesses.

Summary:

Opinion:

The equine world is an incredible life changing experience. The feeling of a horse and rider and the amazing things they can accomplish together is something you cannot describe with words. Greenhawk makes this possible for so many riders that wouldn't otherwise have the chance. Greenhawk along with Ariat sponsored $70,000 to the Canadian Show Jumping Championship. Greenhawk often teams up with other equestrian companies and makes dreams happen for many riders. Another common company Greenhawk associates with is Rolex. They are also associated with the rider Ian Miller, one of the biggest names in the equestrian world - 1st place winner in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Greenhawk is a staple in the equestrian world and will continue to be so. The influence this company alone has on this community is everlasting and moving.
